Question from Leanne - Scaddan mistress of Henry VIII

I've heard recently that one of my ancestors was one of Henry VIII's mistresses. Her last name was Scaddan but I don't know her first name (it was a long time ago!). Apparently this has been recorded somwhere but how can I find this out?

Sorry, I've done a lot of research in this area and the nearest name I have to Scaddan is 'Mary Shelton'. I'd be very interested if someone knew more. He was very private about his private life, however. Although as far as I'm aware there was no family of that name at court, where he met his long-term mistresses (or those we know of, at least).

I've had a look online and could see the name 'Scaddan' mentioned in the National Archives site, but no detals to suggest a pearticular name or a close association with the King. I would look through 'The Letters and Papers of Henry VIII' (if you have access to a good library) and check the indexes for the surname. There are also several posts on here regarding Henry's mistresses. Have a read through them. I suspect you won't find anything, but it's a good family story that's worth investigating.

i googled your last name for you matched with King Henry VIII, i got nothing. but i'm sure the king had many mistresses during his life, many unrecorded. i'd be very interested to know how you found this out? maybe your anscestors somehow placed this in records?

One of my Australian family researchers went to the UK for a holiday and apparently found some information about a female Scaddan being Henry VIII's mistress. That's how I found out but I would like to find out more about it and somehow source it for records. I'm hardly in touch with this family researcher so it may take some time to find out the proper details.
