Can anyone help me with this one. I remember from school part of a poem about Henry VIII it goes like this

"Bluff King Hal was full of beans, he married half a dozen queens, for 3 called Kate he cried the banns, 1 called Jane and a couple of Annes."

Can you help with the rest of the verses it goes on to describe all the wifes and what happened to them. I would love to get the rest of the words for my children as I think it is a great way to remember and help them with their history.

I have to create a 26 year old woman in the New Forest in 1502. She is Martha to me but if this name does not fit then period suggestions would be welcome. She is married with Children and lives a peasant or commoners life. I have some ideas how she and her family might support themselves but am keen to hear of unusual or peculiarly local crafts or trades that might sustain them. I think I am going to find it quite hard to write her speech. Should I concern myself with "Tudor talk" or try to find the oldest available indication of "Forest/Hampshire talk".

While watching the Sho-Time series "The Tudors" I notice that there were a few (black) characters in a couple of the episodes. So, it made me wonder being a person of color myself.

I am writing a historical novel set in the time of Henry VIII's marriage to Katharine Parr. I've found information on money in Tudor times, but I can't really figure out what was considered a HUGE amount of money. The premise of my story consists of a father selling his young daughter to an earl for an obscene bride price, but I don't know what an obscene bride price would be and I'd like my story to be accurate. On travel for a few days

I just wanted to let folks know that I'm going to be traveling for work through Sunday, so I won't be answering emails or making blog posts in that time period. I'll have internet access, but I don't think I'll have a lot of time to deal with non-work stuff!

My apologies to anyone who came looking for the website over the past 18 or so hours. I goofed on my domain renewal (I thought it was renewed through 2008, but obviously not!), but all should be sorted out now. And it's renewed through 2010, so if this little episode is repeated, at least it won't be for another three years.

The funny (and sad) thing is that I was first clued on to the fact that something was wrong when I checked my email this morning and I only had 5 spam emails in my tudorhistory folder (I usually get between 30 and 50 overnight).

Question from Lis - Bleaching linen, etc. in Tudor times

I was told (quite a long time ago now!)that the Tudors used urine to bleach/whiten their linen shifts. I know that urine was used in the preparation of leather and wool. However, recently I was told that urine was not used on the shifts to bleach them, but that wood ash was used instead. Help! Any comments/suggestions/references/information would be gratefully received! Thanks.
