Question from Teresa - Katherine's age vs. Princess Mary's age

Hello everyone, I am trying, for no reason other than its been annoying me that i can't find out, if Katherine "kitty" howard was older or younger than Lady/princess Mary tudor? I know they were close in age but who was older?

Even though we don't know the exact year of Kathryn Howard's birth (as discussed in your previous question), most of the best guesses I've seen still put her younger than Princess Mary, who we know was born in 1516.

Teresa, just out of curiosity, where did you get the idea that Katherine Howard was called "Kitty"? I've never seen her called anything except Katherine in contemporary sources.

I would say Katherine Howard was younger than Mary because the oldest estimate of her age at the time of her execution that I've ever heard was 21, which would still mean Mary was the older of the two. If Katherine was 21 when she died, then she would have been born c.1519, and Mary was born in 1516, so she would still be older by 3 years.

Princess Mary Tudor did not like Catherine Howard and it is suspected that their ages had to do with it. I wrote a book about Catherine Howard. It is on Scribd.com and it is called "A Rose Without Thorn".
