Question from Stacey - Elizabeth's funeral effigy

The funeral effigy of Elizabeht in Westminster Abbey:
Is this a recreation of the effigy that was on Elizabeth's original coffin? Is it accurate as to what she really looked like when she died? Is an effigy a statue? Also, why would James I put Mary & Elizabeth together? (I apologize for asking so many questions)

The wax effigy in the Westminster Abbey museum is the original one that was carried on her coffin during her funeral, although it was remade in the 18th century - see here for a picture and more info: http://www.westminster-abbey.org/our-history/royals/burials/elizabeth-i
