Question from Lee - Jane Grey portrait off display at the NPG
Does anyone know why the national portrait gallery has taken the lady jayne portrait off display? It seems such a shame that all that money was spent on it and its not on public display. Are more tests or conservation work being done on it?

I asked at the NPG on Friday and they said they didn't know if it would be back on display. There was no mention of conservation work.
The portrait was removed from room 3 in April 2009 and was only displayed again as part of the Lady Jane Grey exhibition from Dec 2009 to August 2010.
It's a shame that the closest thing we have to a try likeness of her is not on display for people to see, especially when it was paid for with public money.

I e-mailed the NPG to see if they had any further information and they replied:
That there are no current plans to display this portrait due to lack of space but hope an opportunity will arise in the near future.
