The king's cousin, Henry Courtenay, Marquis of Exeter, was supposed to be the king's near double in appearance, and reported to be "high in favor" at the beginning of the reign. He's not very much in evidence as part of Henry's circle in the late 1520s and 1530s, which might indicate that Henry's favor had dropped off. At any rate, he was implicated in the Poles' alleged treason and executed in 1538.
Carew and Neville spring to mind. Also Margaret Pole and her family.
ReplyDeleteThere was also Arthur Lisle and Thomas Howard, Duke of Norfolk, both of whom had lucky escapes from the block.
