Thornbury Castle and its beautiful gardens still exists today, being the only Tudor Hotel in the UK open to the public to stay in, which we enjoyed very much ourselves some years ago. The Castle was built by Edward Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham and godfather to Anne Boleyn, who had been executed by Henry VIII. for treason in 1521, being of the royal line of Lancaster and therefore a threat to the throne. Some rooms in the hotel are themed rooms, like the Henry VIII. suite, where Anne and Henry did stay - or the Robert Deveraux Suite, we booked. There are many Tudor paintings in the Hotel to enjoy, including two beautiful portraits of Anne and Henry in the long gallery.
