Question from Pippa - Henry VIII and being King

Did Henry the 8th ever wish he wasn't King?

  1. I'm not aware of Henry ever making comments to that effect, but those are the type of things that probably wouldn't be written down for us to study 500 years later. For some reason I can't imagine that Henry would ever want to be anything other than a king. Well, maybe an Emperor. :)

  3. I am sure that at times he felt that the monarchy was sitting heavily on his shoulders and that he had a lot of responsibility, but I'm sure that the power and luxury were nice consolations.

  4. I do believe that at certain times he did wish that he wasn't king. Certain points of his reign were so horrible even from his perspective that it he might have been happier were he not, espcially toward the end of his reign.

  5. I don't think it would ever have crossed Henry's mind. I think he was one of those people who never experience self-doubt. I wonder what would have happened to him if Arthur had lived? It's very hard to imagine him playing second fiddle.

  6. Henry said to his court "a rich man has to take what is handed to him, while a poor man is free to choose". I think he thought these pivitol thoughts while being married to him "horse".
