Question from Chase - Punishments for coining

What was the punishment for coining in the 16th century? I am in 7th grade and need help for a research project.

I'm not too sure what you mean by coining. Do you mean forging coins? Clipping coins was a far more common crime in the 16th century and was punishable by death.

(I seem to recall that Christopher Marlowe was accused of clipping coins when he was abroad and Burghley got him off the charge.)
